LASPA Empowers Staff with Life-Saving Skills to Enhance Public Safety

… Completes Certified First Aider Training for Officers

In a move aimed at strengthening the Lagos State Parking Authority’s (LASPA) commitment to public safety, the agency has successfully completed a Certified First Aider Course for selected officers.

The two-day training, facilitated by Finsbury Heinz Limited, was held on November 14-15, 2024, at the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Alausa, Lagos.

The course was designed to equip LASPA officers with essential first aid skills, enabling them to deliver immediate care and respond effectively to emergencies both on the roads and in public spaces.

In her remarks following the completion of the course, the General Manager of LASPA, Mrs. Adebisi Adelabu, emphasized the importance of such training for both the Authority’s staff and the larger Lagos community.

“We are committed to ensuring that our officers are well-prepared to handle emergencies with confidence and efficiency. This training marks a significant step toward achieving that objective,” Mrs. Adelabu said. “By equipping our staff with life-saving skills, we are improving our ability to respond effectively to accidents and emergencies while performing our duties. Ultimately, this initiative will help protect the lives of Lagos residents, making it an investment in both our workforce and the public.”

The training forms part of LASPA’s broader safety initiatives, aimed at enhancing operational readiness and promoting safety across the Authority. By certifying officers in first aid, the agency seeks to increase the safety of both staff and members of the public who interact with LASPA, as well as build greater trust in its ability to handle emergency situations.
The course also stressed the importance of teamwork, communication, and maintaining composure during emergencies—skills essential for minimizing harm and saving lives.
With the successful completion of this program, LASPA now boasts a team of certified first aiders, poised to deliver swift and professional responses in emergency situations, further enhancing public safety and contributing to the well-being of all Lagosians.

Participants were trained in key areas critical to public safety, including:
Basic Life Support (BLS): Techniques in CPR, use of Automated External Defibrillators (AED), and emergency airway management.
Wound and Injury Care: Proper methods for treating cuts, burns, fractures, and sprains.
Choking and Obstruction Management: Techniques to assist individuals in respiratory distress.
Shock Response: How to identify symptoms of shock and provide timely interventions.
Emergency Protocols: Effective coordination with emergency medical teams to ensure swift action.

The training was highly practical, with hands-on sessions that allowed officers to not only learn the theoretical aspects of first aid but also apply these techniques in real-life scenarios.
