Benefits of a Well-Maintained Parking Lot

The parking lot is often the first thing your customers see when approaching your property. A well-maintained parking lot can make a great first impression, adding to your brand image. It also shows that you care about the safety of your customers and employees.

Benefits of a Well-Maintained Parking Lot

  1. Improve relationships with customers by giving a lasting first impression
  2. Improve the resale value of your property
  3. Minimize tenant turnover in commercial properties
  4. Give pride to employees for your company or to students for their school
  5. Avoid accidents caused by pot-holesand pavement cracks
  6. Ensure code compliance for fire and ADA regulations
  7. Increase the life of your pavement and protect your investment

Elements of a Well-Maintained Parking Lot

There are four key factors that contribute to a parking lot that is well-cared for:

  • Smooth, sealed surface
  • Bright, clear markings to facilitate smooth traffic and parking
  • Sealed cracks to protect the ground from further damage
  • Without potholes that could cause serious accidents

Pavement is weakened by exposure to sun and water, weight of vehicles and flexibility in the pavement. Here are some things you can do to prolong the life of your investment:

  • Remove obstructions from catch basins and storm water structures to avoid water damage.
  • Remove accumulated debris and latent materials from the surface to prevent the growth of moss that can break through and weaken the pavement.
  • Fill cracksand sealcoat regularly

What is parallel parking? Parallel parking is a technique of parking parallel to the road, in line with other parked vehicles and facing in the same direction as traffic on that side of the road. To do this, you pull up parallel to the vehicle in front of the parking space and slowly back up into the parking space.

Perpendicular parking

Perpendicular parking is one of the most common ways you’ll park your car, with many bays at supermarkets and shopping centres using these types of spaces at their complexes.

Turning your wheels to the right means that if you are parked facing downhill, your vehicle will roll forward and away from the road, and if you are facing uphill, your vehicle will roll backwards and away from the road.

What is a Three-Point Turn? The three-point turn is a way of turning a vehicle around in a small space by going forward, turning to one side, then backing up, turning in order to face the other direction, then going forward again. This type of turn is usually done when the road is too narrow for a U-turn, coming out from a perpendicular parking, etc. and is not allowed in congested areas.

Also known as 90-degree parking, perpendicular parking uses spaces that are arranged at a 90-degree angle in relation to the parking lot lanes.
